Very fine Chinese Republic period cloisonne enamelled gilt copper brush washer bowl featuring central medallion with stylized Shou character surrounded by typical honeysuckle pattern set against an intricate spiral background.

Provenance: Collection of Alice Murphy, a Congregationalist Missionary and teacher in China between 1920s-40s. She served with Dr. Susan Barbara Sargent (Tallmon).

Rare Chinese Antique Biscuit Porcelain Buddhist Foo Lion Snuff Bottle 19thC Qing

Interesting antique Chinese biscuit porcelain snuff bottle in the form of a charming foo lion playing with his ball. Likely dating to the 19th century, Qing dynasty. Larger than most examples of this type and unusual as it is unglazed. Length: 11.5 cm.

RARE Chinese Antique Clobbered Blue and White Trench Mortar Porcelain Dish 18thC

Rare 18th century Chinese blue and white porcelain dish decorated with a rural scene and unusual looking house, commonly referred to as ‘Pearl River House’, ‘Malayan Village’ or ‘Trench Mortar’ pattern (this pattern also inspired several English transfer-printed versions produced at the end of the 18th century by various factories including New Hall, Spode and Worcester). Dish was later decorated (‘clobbered’) in England with vibrant polychrome overglaze enamels featuring floral sprays and a dragon. Base is marked with a pseudo-Chinese iron red mark. Diameter: 21 cm.

Chinese Vintage Set of Stirrup Shaped Chased Brass Ornaments or Dishes 20th C

Interesting set of three heavily cast Chinese brass stirrups with chased decoration featuring dragons surrounded by geometric and foliate designs. Each stamped CHINA to the base. Intended either as decorative items or small dishes of sorts. Height: largest is 13 cm tall, smallest is around 8 cm tall.

Chinese Vintage PRoC Porcelain Figural Lamp Base Lu Mengzheng Broken Kiln Opera

Great vintage Chinese porcelain lamp base dating to the third quarter of the 20th century (PRoC). Depicting figures from the opera ‘The Broken Kiln’, Lu Mengzheng and Liu Yue’e:

Lü Mengzheng went daily to Mulan Temple for alms meals, while Liu Yue’e subsisted on wild herbs. One day, upon returning home, Mengzheng saw a man’s footprints in the snow and mistakenly suspected his wife of infidelity. It was only through ‘Appraising the Snow and Discerning Tracks’ that he learned the footprints were left by someone sent by Liu Mao to deliver aid. Later, Lü Mengzheng studied diligently, went to the capital for the imperial examination, achieved the top rank of zhuangyuan (top graduate), and the couple was reunited.

Base stamped 广东枫溪 ‘Fengxi, Guangdong’. Height: 27.5 cm, height of the porcelain base itself is 21 cm.

Fine antique Chinese export gouache painting on pith paper depicting a seated lady dressed in intricately embroidered robe, playing a large drum. Behind her on a marble top hardwood table can be seen an incense burner and a vase with a floral arrangement. Beautifully painted example with somewhat unusual subject. Nicely framed and glazed.

Marked with a six-character iron red Kangxi mark but likely dating to the late Qing dynasty or Republic period. Diameter: 24.5 cm.

Wonderful large Japanese hammered bronze ‘dobachi’ a.k.a. Buddhist temple rin bell with subtle relief decoration featuring coiling dragons surrounded by three-leaf or three-petal ‘Katabami kamon’ emblems. Rings beautifully and for a long time. Appears to oscillate between two frequencies around 178Hz and 512Hz, both very important frequencies in sound therapy. Diameter: 31 cm.

Antique or Vintage Japanese Ceramic Figure of Oni No Nenbutsu 19th-20th Century

Wonderful Japanese ceramic okimono depicting ‘Oni nenbutsu’ or demon in monk’s robes performing Buddhist winter training by banging a gong and repeating prayers. He is holding a sign that says 光陰如箭 ‘time flies like an arrow’. One of his horns is slightly shorter, showing his progress on the path towards enlightenment. Height: 11.5 cm.

Chinese Vintage Scroll Original Ink Rubbing On Paper Family Motto of Zhu Bailu

Rare and quite unusual Chinese ink rubbing on paper featuring ‘Family Motto of Zhu Bailu’ (朱柏廬先生家訓), also known as ‘Zhu Bailu’s Maxims for Managing a Household’ (朱柏廬治家格言). Each depicted in the form of a seal and transcribed in traditional characters below. Very interesting piece for a scholar’s study. Dimensions: scroll measures approx. 130×34 cm, area of the rubbing is approx. 112×30 cm.

Interesting heavily cast Chinese bronze/brass bowl of oval form with wavy rim. Featuring engraved decoration with dragons above the rolling waves chasing after the pearl with stylized auspicious character in the middle. Base marked with a two-character seal mark surrounded by another pair of dragons. Dimensions: 22×16.5×7 cm.

Fine Antique Indian Bronze Brass Hindu Figure of Kneeling Garuda 18th-19th C

Beautiful antique South Indian (?) bronze (or similar copper alloy) figure of Garuda, the mythical vahana of Lord Vishnu. Depicted kneeling on a circular pierced base with his hands in Anjali Mudra. Great patina and prominent wear all around. Couldn’t find one quite like it for reference but judging by the wear possibly an 18th or 19th century example. Height: 8 cm.

Really unusual small 19th century Canton famille rose decorated vase with classic foo lion handles and applied chimeras coiled around the shoulders. Typical floral export pattern is combined with (and painted over) the Wu Shuang Pu pattern with parts of the decoration covering inscriptions associated with figures depicted.
