Stunning antique Chinese blue and white porcelain ‘zhadou’ bowl with a silver rim and finely painted underglaze blue decoration depicting a young goatherd resting on a rock in the shade of a willow tree, with a pair of goats walking in front on him. Reverse decorated with a single bat and later incised character, perhaps the name of the owner. Possibly a ‘Bleu de Hue’ type made for the Vietnamese market during the late Qing dynasty.

Very unusual pair of antique Japanese vases with relief moulded cats surrounded by gilt lacquered overglaze decoration featuring flowers and insects that these playful cats are after. Nice quality work all around but the vases are surprisingly not signed. Somewhat reminiscent of Sumida Gawa ceramics but we’ve never seen examples like these before, especially with gilt lacquered overglaze decoration. Any info welcome! Height: each approx. 25.5 cm tall.

Antique Japanese Meiji Period Banko Ware Vase by HARUKAGE aka Fuyama Yutaro RARE

Rare antique Japanese Meiji period Banko ware vase depicting seagulls flying above the waves. Base stamped 布山 (Fuyama/Fuzan) and 春景 (Harukage) which are the marks of Fuyama/Fuzan Yutaro 布山 由太郎 (born in Mino Province in 1836). He was a master of the potter’s wheel and also skilled in hand-twisting, wooden mould making, and tatami construction. He died in 1912 at the age of 77. Height: 15 cm.

Fine Chinese Antique Republic Period Biquan Soapstone Seal by Xinquan Dated 1941

A wonderful Chinese Republic period soapstone seal inscribed 璧泉造像 ‘Statue of Biquan’ and with additional inscription on the side that says 璧泉先生造像 ‘Statue of Teacher Biquan’ and with cyclical date 辛巳 at the end, corresponding with year 1941. There also appears to be signature of ‘Xinquan’ 心泉 which might belong to Gao Xinquan (高心泉), a well-known Republic period seal carver based in Beijing. He produced seals for many important Republic period figures such as Qi Baishi and others.For reference see:

Calligraphy and inscriptions are hard to read but the small oval seal appears to read 李 ‘Li’ and the first character of one of the other seals looks to be 可 ‘Ke’ (not sure about the second one). Artist Li Keran 李可染 (1907 – 1989) used similar style of painting and calligraphy, as well as oval 
李 ‘Li’ seal on his works but we were unable to confirm whether these could have been done by him. Height: each approx. 7.5 cm.

Very rare hand-tinted engravings of Chinese soldiers from the first edition of Olfert Dapper’s important work on China, TAISING OF SINA, drawing on documents and information from the embassies and trade missions sent by the Dutch East India Company to China from 1662 to 1668. Published in 1670 in Amsterdam. As the label on the back states, these views are among the earliest examples of engravings of China to be published in Europe. Rare early 19th century Chinese export porcelain plate decorated in unusual pink/mulberry overglaze enamels featuring a typical Fitzhugh pattern with a monogram in the middle. Sticker on the back reads ‘Maggie Keswick’ who references a similarly decorated Fitzhugh service in her book ‘The Thistle and the Jade’. It could possibly be a piece from her collection but not 100% on this.
