Exceptional 19th century Tibetan ceremonial mask of a protective wrathful deity Mahakala. Made out of heavy hardwood with beautiful dark surface patina and with visible remnants of original polychrome pigments. A textile ring on the inside used to keep the mask stable on the dancers head. Prominent wear to the top edge of the mask just above the ring, indicating its regular ritual use.
Good antique condition consistent with age and usage. Mask is solid and sturdy with minor surface tension cracks as a result of the natural aging of the wood. Complete condition report is available upon request.
