RARE Chinese Antique Clobbered Blue and White Trench Mortar Porcelain Dish 18th C

£140.00 + postage

Rare 18th century Chinese blue and white porcelain dish decorated with a rural scene and unusual looking house, commonly referred to as ‘Pearl River House’, ‘Malayan Village’ or ‘Trench Mortar’ pattern (this pattern also inspired several English transfer-printed versions produced at the end of the 18th century by various factories including New Hall, Spode and Worcester). Dish was later decorated (‘clobbered’) in England with vibrant polychrome overglaze enamels featuring floral sprays and a dragon. Base is marked with a pseudo-Chinese iron red mark. Great piece for a collection!

One short hairline to the rim that is on the back covered by the clobbered decoration designed to conceal it. Displays beautifully.

Diameter: 21 cm
