A Pair of Chinese Mandarin Rank Badges with Coral Beads Sun. 19th century

A pair of Mandarin civil rank badges – Mandarin squares – embroidered with gilt and metallic thread woven with couched details against a dark metallic ground. Badges depict golden Quails perched on a rock above the sea of rolling waves, surrounded by Ashtamangala – eight auspicious Buddhist symbols – and facing red sun on the left-hand side of the badge (male badge). Sun disks are made out of coiled threads of precious red coral beads. Scene is set against a background of tightly woven ruyi head clouds and framed by the border of alternating auspicious Shou characters and bats.

In good antique condition with some loose threads and minor condition issues commensurate with age.  Framed and glazed. Wonderful decorative item ready to hang on your wall.
