Large Pair of Chinese Blanc De Chine Buddhist Lion Joss Stick Holders. L. Wannieck Provenance

Fantastic pair of large Blanc de Chine Buddhist lions dating to the second half of the 17th century. Each seated on a rectangular plinth, resting its paw on a brocade ball and holding a ribbon in its jaws. One of the figures bears collection label of L. Wannieck, Paris. Another one bears remnants of two additional collection labels and a hand-written inscription in black ink.

Condition: Right lion in excellent condition. Left lion missing small part of his tail and one of the fangs. Both with some typical minor firing flaws. Without restorations. UV checked.

Height: 26.5 cm

Provenance: Collection of Léon Wannieck, Paris

Origin: China
Date of production: Kangxi period, late 17th century
(there are also very similar examples dating to Shunzhi period, 1644-1661)
Material: Dehua porcelain
