Stunning large Chinese export black lacquer box with heavily gilded hand-painted figural scenes and typical 18th century flower basket pattern surrounded by precious objects and numerous floral sprays on its lid. Classic octagonal design with domed lid reminiscent of sewing boxes of the same period but without internal compartments. Great early example of China trade lacquerware that is both decorative and functional.
Box is in reasonable antique condition consistent with age and usage. Some usual losses, splits and old repairs to lacquer all around as per photographs. Hinges have been at some point replaced. Complete condition report available upon request.
