Stunning large antique Japanese Meiji period Satsuma pottery vase of hexagonal form. Decorated with two intricately painted scenes featuring numerous figures in heavily gilded kimonos and with blossoming cherry trees and birds behind them. All set against cobalt blue background embellished with gold butterflies and geometric designs. Base marked with the Shimazu mon and signed 薩摩焼 服部 ‘Satsuma ware, Hattori’.

Minor age-related wear to the gilding, otherwise in excellent condition.
