Great 18th century export bowl decorated in Imari palette with underglaze blue, overglaze iron red and remnants of gilding. Decoration on the outside of the bowl features an extensive landscape scene with a scholar and his attendant making their way across the lake towards a mountain retreat or a temple surrounded by lotuses, willow trees and other foliage. Inside of the bowl is decorated with a single floral spray in the centre framed by a typical geometric floral border along the upper rim.
Condition
In good antique condition with some wear to the inside of the bowl consistent with age and usage. Rubbing to the gilding all around. Hairline crack across the base visible mostly just from below. Some firing flaws on the outside of the bowl in areas of underglaze blue.
