Exceptional pair of antique Japanese Yokohama-yaki porcelain plates decorated by Hikojiro Imura. Hand-painted decoration depicts single butterfly feeding on a flower in the central field of the plate, surrounded by a variety of finely detailed smaller butterflies scattered throughout the outer part of each plate and framed by concentric gilded floral motifs. Inscribed “Dai Nippon Imura Zo” 大日本井村製 in overglaze red enamels on the reverse.
Plates are in good antique condition with loss of enamels and gilding consistent with age and usage. Both have several chips around the edges that have been at some point professionally restored. Please see photographs for more details. Complete condition report is available upon request.
