A matching pair of Japanese Satsuma calligraphy brush pots in Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto ware) style. Richly decorated with floral sprays, butterflies and birds in raised enamels all around, framed by geometric borders on both ends. Inscribed with red four-character maker’s mark.

Late 19th century, Meiji Period.

Minor loss of enamels and age-related wear. Chip to the foot and small 5cm hairline to the top rim of one of the pots as per photographs.
