Rare set of four Tsakli Buddhist initiation cards. First pair – painted on mulberry paper – represents wrathful Dharmapalas surrounded by aureoles of flames. Second pair – painted on canvas – represents Bodhisattvas on their vahanas (animal mounts). Inscribed with Tibetan script on the reverse. Ritual Tsakli cards of this type were traditionally used by Tibetan Buddihst masters during initiations and empowerment ceremonies. They are known in Mongolia as Burhany Zurag and were often used as centerpieces in their portable shrines (Gau).
