Fantastic antique Chinese export silver round box with a gilt interior and unusual finial modelled as a magpie. Features fine repousse decoration depicting a classic pattern with magpies and prunus blossom, creating the visual rebus ‘xishang meishao’ (喜上眉梢) which translates to ‘happiness up to your eyebrows’. The base bears the stamp of the artisan silversmith ‘Zhuo’ 卓 (Canton) who produced pieces for various retailers in Canton, Hong Kong and Shanghai. This example was retailed by Kwan Hing (KH) and also bears a standard 90% purity mark.
