Very pretty Japanese covered tripod box with finely hand-painted and heavily gilded decoration. Depicting a scene with red-crowned cranes surrounded by irises and with Mt. Fuji in the distance. Interior is embellished with floral sprays and exterior with additional floral cartouches framed by intricate linear and geometric patterns. Signed ‘Kitamura’ 喜夛村 or 喜多村 underneath.

In very good antique condition showing some typical small nicks to the inner rim from regular use. These are not visible with the lid on.
