Gorgeous Japanese Satsuma pottery bowl with finely hand-painted cartouches depicting a bird among wisteria blossoms and a charming figural scene. These are framed by an intricate heavily gilded background of swirling geometric patterns and flowers on a stippled ground. Similar motifs are then also repeated on the exterior of the bowl. Marked 亰都朝山 ‘Kyoto Asayama (Chozan)’ underneath. Absolutely stunning example of its type!
In excellent condition with only minor age-related rubbing to the gilding.
