Fine Antique Japanese Meiji Relief Decorated Gilt Lacquered Porcelain Vases RARE

£200.00 + postage

Very unusual pair of antique Japanese vases with relief moulded cats surrounded by gilt lacquered overglaze decoration featuring flowers and insects that these playful cats are after. Nice quality work all around but the vases are surprisingly not signed. Somewhat reminiscent of Sumida Gawa ceramics but we’ve never seen examples like these before, especially with gilt lacquered overglaze decoration. Any info welcome!

Each cat missing the tip of one ear. Some age-related wear to the gilt lacquered decoration as photographed.

Height: each approx. 25.5 cm tall.
