A wonderful c. 18th century Chinese soapstone figure of Shoulao dressed in flowing robes, with long staff in his right hand and auspicious crane by his side. Stylistically very close to the one sold by Bonhams (Asian Art sale, 13-14 May 2024) – lot 197 – A SOAPSTONE CARVING OF SHOULAO, 17th/18th century, inscribed 1734.
Part of the staff connecting to the back of the head missing but not too noticeable. Otherwise in good antique condition with typical surface wear and patina. Slight wobble to the base.
Height: 26 cm / approx. 10 inches
