Fine Chinese Cloisonne Round Covered Box With Buddhist Symbols and Carved Jade Plaque

£1,220.00 + postage

Fantastic large Chinese covered cloisonné bowl decorated with auspicious symbols including eight Buddhist precious objects (Ashtamangala), Shou characters and bats on a blue ground with clouds. Interior of both bowl and cover fully enamelled with central floral design surrounded by foliate scrolls. Round openwork carved jade plaque at the top of the lid featuring Fenghuang (phoenix) bird.

In great condition with no apparent loss of enamels – there are some tension cracks around the bowl just under the rim that appear to be due to age and size of the item. Note that rims of lid and bowl are a bit irregular – due to inner tension of enamels slightly warping the body – and therefore the lid doesn’t sit perfectly flat as can be seen in the photographs.

Diameter: 29 cm
