Chinese Tang Dynasty style figure of a Sogdian (Central Asian) merchant, depicted wearing a traditional conical cap and with visible remnants of original polychrome pigments on the surface. Depictions of Sogdians and other foreign ethnic groups are often found on Chinese pottery of this period as many merchants from the Near East as well as Central Asia travelled to China along the silk road. For similar example see RISD Museum collection, object no. 16.083.

In good age-appropriate condition with some minor chips around the edges as per photographs. No restorations. UV checked.
