Large Chinese Hardwood and Silver Inlay Figure of Immortal Shouxing. 19th century

Finely carved antique Chinese hardwood figure of Shouxing – Taoist God of Longevity. This large figure is rich in symbolism, holding the Peach of Immortality in his hand, leaning on the Staff of Life, and being accompanied by a Crane – symbol of longevity in Chinese mythology. Statue is intricately decorated with silver wire all around. The top of the staff has been drilled to be used as a lamp base or a candle holder.

Good antique condition with two small chips – one on the forehead and one on the back of the figure. Large tension crack running through the statue as a result of natural aging of the wood.
