Unusually large Chinese porcelain figure of a seated monkey. Originally part of a set of three wise monkeys – see no evil (Mizaru), hear no evil (Kikazaru), speak no evil (Iwazaru). Figure is decorated in Famille rose enamels, wearing a vest adorned with a roundel depicting five bats among the clouds. These represent five Chinese blessings – longevity ‘shou’ (壽), wealth ‘fu’ (富), prosperity ‘kuei’ (貴), health ‘an le’ (安樂) and fertility ‘tzu-sun chung-tuo'(子孫眾多).
Red four-character reign mark stamped to the base.
In very good condition with only minor loss of enamels commensurate with age. No damage or restoration.
