Fabulous antique Japanese Edo period Kano school ink drawing on paper depicting bird perched on a rope, examining the scarecrow visible below. Accompanied by a poetic inscription and signature which appears to read 保友之 ‘by Yasutomo’ (alternative reading ‘Hoyu’) with two red seals which in seal script read 保 ‘Yasu’ and 友 ‘tomo’.

Collection of The Tottori University Library features a Kano school scroll painting with a very similar signature and seal 保友之印 and lists the full name of the artist as 永眠保友 (1802-1858).

Age-related wear and creases as per photographs.
