Rare Japanese boxwood carving depicting a blind man leaning on his cane and being led by a young female – possibly his daughter. An unusual and touching theme rarely depicted by Japanese artists. Kimonos of both figures are heavily decorated with hand-painted gilt patterns. Old repair to the leg of the man and small break to the woman’s kimono near the base of the figure. Rubbing to the gilding consistent with age.
