Antique Indian Copper Alloy Figure of Rama and Sita. Southern India, 18th-19th Century

Nice early Hindu figure of Lord Rama and his consort Sita. Good patina and significant ritual wear. Rama is one of the avatars of Vishnu and style of this figural group (Sitarama) is very similar to depictions of his other avatars such as Narayan (Lakshmi Narayan) or Narasimha (Lakshmi Narasimha). Shape of the base suggests that it was originally part of a larger Ram Darbar shrine with Rama and Sita accompanied by other figures from Ramayana including Hanuman and Rama’s brothers Bharata and Shatrughna.

In good condition with surface wear consistent with age and ritual use.
