Wonderful antique Hampatong statue, most likely by the Dayak people of Borneo/Kalimantan. Depicting a seated guardian spirit or ancestor holding his legs which are drawn towards the body in a posture typical of Hampatong figures. These were traditionally placed near the entrances to their dwellings or along footpaths leading to the river and protected villagers against evil spirits.
Mounted on a stand which can be easily removed if necessary.
Heavily eroded surface with remnants of dirt and small roots but remains very sturdy.
Height: 48 cm including the stand (figure itself measures approx. 42 cm)
