Rare antique etchings from the title page of Picturae Sinicae ac Surattenae, Vasis Tabellisque Exhibitae (1702) by Pieter Schenk. This album was the first example of a complete series devoted to a Chinese subject in European graphic art and one of the few chinoiserie albums thought to derive directly from authentic Chinese sources, such as ink drawings of famous people accompanied by transcriptions of Confucian teachings. Featuring two scenes titled ‘Ni K’uan of the Han Dynasty’ and ‘T’ien Chên and his two brothers’. Framed and glazed.
