Finely hand-knotted Chinese pictorial Baotou (Paotou) rug depicting a landscape scene with six horses framed by attractive lotus and vine border. Scene is a simplified version of popular Chinese pattern depicting the Eight Horses of King Wang Mu. Rug is tightly woven and has strong indigo colours. Produced during 1910s or 1920s in the Baotou-Suiyuan area of Chinese Inner Mongolia.
In good antique condition with minor staining and age-related loss of fringe and wool around the edges.
