Rare antique Chinese Qing dynasty export porcelain dish/shallow bowl made for the Javanese market. Featuring underglaze blue decoration with traditional Javanese Wayang shadow puppets. Signed 和合 underneath. This type is often incorrectly described as being Japanese but the way it is potted is clearly Chinese. It is correctly identified as Chinese by Bennett, J., et al. in their book Crescent Moon: Islamic Art & Civilisation in Southeast Asia, Art Gallery of South Australia, 2005.
No cracks or hairlines. One inconspicuous chip to the inside of the foot rim and some age-related surface wear.
