Unusual two-tone Lifan pottery amphora with only partially blackened body, leaving one side and the handles brown, while the other side is black. Burnished pear-shaped body with large twin handles is decorated on each side with raised spiral patterns that are thought to represent eyes. Lozenge-shaped rim features two angular spouts for pouring and the neck is decorated with two bands of incised linear patterns. Vessel stands on a flat circular foot rim. This type of amphorae is known as Lifan after the area in Sichuan province where such examples have been found.
In good condition with surface marks consistent with other Han dynasty examples. There’s a minor age-related tension crack where the base has been applied to the body.
